Elmo’s Diner in Carrboro is very noisy. Hard to hear anybody talk, but I like to take my grandkids there to eat. It would be nice if they could do something to make it a little quieter so I could hear them when we eat together.

I have hard of hearing parents and it’s difficult to find a place where we can talk and visit together. Recently, I discovered that the Melting Pot near Southpoint has a quiet atmosphere. The booths are separated nicely and keeps down the background noise. My father could actually hear all 4 of us talking that night! Good food too!

I have found Il Palio Restaurante in Chapel Hill to be quiet. I can converse with my wife at dinner and enjoy being able to talk when going out to eat. Good food and quiet for conversation!

I tell my husband that it’s not worth it to go out to eat – I can’t hear what he’s saying and then we get annoyed with each other.

I know just what you mean! The restaurants are noisy but a conversation is impossible. I can’t imagine what it is like for someone who has hearing challenges.

I am so frustrated with not being able to take my parents out to celebrate their birthdays. They live in Chapel Hill and can’t hear well, so they don’t enjoy the “celebration”. They even tell me they don’t want to go out to eat because they can’t have a conversation inside the restaurant. I would love to find a restaurant to take them to so we can hear each other and can enjoy good conversations in Chapel Hill. Any suggestions?
